Winter Junior Company Show: Gulliver +
Gulliver’s Travels in the 21st Century (Grades 6-8)
In 1726, Jonathan Swift’s best-selling book Gulliver’s Travels told the story of Gulliver – castaway on faraway islands and encountering odd creatures – to reflect on, parody and make fun of the politics and society of the times.
What would a modern-day Gulliver see? Who needs to be taken down a peg? Celebrity culture, political tricksters, viral video stars, anxious officials? Would he travel in this world or another? Students will create and perform a play with music that explores and pokes fun at our modern world through imagination, metaphor, humor and song. By audition only.
